Experienced and Early Stage Researcher Vacancies

Experienced Researcher for Missions to Phobos

One Experienced Researcher (ER) vacancy (one year) at GMV

Foreseen inicial date: 01/09/2014

Main tasks:
  • Investigate orbits/trajectories around Phobos in Mars-Phobos-SC restricted 3-body problem
  • Investigate stability of orbits around Phobos (e.g. Quasi-Satellite Orbits)
  • Investigate flyability of orbits (navigation constraints and errors, manoeuvre execution errors)
  • Design (optimize) transfers and descent trajectories on Phobos
  • Investigate optimal guidance and control techniques for different descent phases (body-fixed hovering, orbit maintenance, descent & landing), considering different propulsion systems (high, medium, low thrust)
Required and valuable knowledge:
  • Orbital mechanics
  • Trajectory mission design and optimization
  • Missions to small bodies
  • Programming in Matlab/Simulink
  • Spacecraft closed-loop simulators

General Conditions of Nationality and Mobility and Eligibility Criteria

Researchers are normally required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment. Three general rules apply to the appointment of researchers in a network:

  • Researchers can be nationals of any country other than the country of the premises of the host organisation where they will carry out their project; however nationals of countries outside the EU and Associated States can only be recruited by hosts that are located in Member States or Associated States.
  • Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. This rule does not apply in cases where a researcher is subsequently appointed in another node of the same network within the same country.
  • At the time of appointment, Early Stage Researcher (ESR) applicants should have no more than 4 years experience (FTE) after graduation and no PhD.
  • At the time of appointment, Experienced Researcher (ER) applicants should have no more than 5 years experience (FTE) after graduation.
