Service description

The Radiation Laboratory at ICE (IEEC-CSIC) is devoted to characterise radiation detectors based on a semiconductor material such as Cadmium Zinc Telluride (Cd(Zn)Te) or Silicon (Si). It is devoted to High Energy Astrophysics experiments, but it can also be used for other research areas that can take profit of the available instrumentation. The available equipment allows to perform spectroscopy measurements at room and low temperature in the X and Gamma-ray range (from tens of keVs to 1-2 MeV). The Radiation Laboratory has been authorized by the “Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN)” with the number IRA-3137.

Equipment

The experimental setup at the radiation lab consists of:

  • Vacuum chamber

    • Dimensions: 350 x 300 x 350mm
    • Leakage vacuum: 10-6mbar

  • Vacuum pump

    • Nominal flow: 6 m3/h
    • Ultimate total pressure: 3 10-2 mbar

  • Cooling and heating control equipment. Model: Julabo FP50-HL

    • Working temperature range: -50 … 200 ºC
    • Temperature stability: ±0.01 ºC
    • Refrigerant: R404A / R507

  • Freezer. Model: Radiber GT-199

    • Temperature: -30ºC

  • High voltage power supply. Model: Keithley 2410
  • 6U VME430 195 Mini crate series: The crate offers 9 VME slots in compact designed chassis with integrated low noise power supply and cooling fan.
  • X / gamma spectrometer:
