The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC)

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia is a research center participated by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Universitat de Barcelona, the Universitat Autònoma de Catalunya, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Spanish National Research Council. Its goals are to promote astronomical and space research and to develop related technological applications. It is a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional institute, bringing together over 200 researchers and engineers, and it has a notorious scientific and technological production in first-rate projects.

The IEEC is composed by four units: the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB), the Centre for Space Studies and Research (CERES-UAB), the Space Science and Technology Research Group (CTE-UPC) and the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC). The IEEC manages the Observatori Astronòmic del Montsec (OAdM).

With this nomination, Jordi Torra replaces Jordi Isern, research professor at the CSIC and current director of the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC-CSIC), who had been the chair of the IEEC since its creation in 1996.
