Scientists detect the optical counterpart of the latest gravitational waves of LIGO / Virgo
Researchers at the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC-CSIC), the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE) and the Institute of Theoretical Physics (UAM-CSIC) captured echoes of the collision of two neutron stars, the source of the most recent gravitational wave detected by LIGO / Virgo.

The IEEC turns 21
Today, February 6 is the anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) as a reference center for space research in Catalonia. More than two decades dedicated to knowing the Universe, participating in several space missions of the different space agencies, and contributing in a relevant way in the knowledge of astrophysics and astronomy.

MAGIC observes a gravitational lens at very high energies
Scientists working with the Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) observatory report the discovery of the most distant gamma-ray source ever observed at very high energies, thanks to the “replay” of an enormous flare by a galactic gravitational lens as foreseen by Einstein’s General Relativity.
