PhD grant Maria de Maeztu. SEARCH OF NEW PHYSICS IN RADIATIVE FLAVOUR DECAYS

Description

The Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB), a María de Maeztu Excellence Unit of the University of Barcelona, announces the opening of a predoctoral positions in the frame of the MINECO’s program “Ayudas para contratos predoctorales para la formación de doctores 2016″.

The fellowships will have a duration of 4 years. If the PhD thesis is finished in 3 years, the student will be able to keep their contract as a postdoc fellow for one more year.

Applications should follow the MINECO’s procedure. For an English translation of the procedure please see attached document.

SEARCH OF NEW PHYSICS IN RADIATIVE FLAVOUR DECAYS
IP: Lluís Garrido

ICCUB participates in the LHCb experiment at CERN since1998. The experiment is designed for precision studies of b (and c) quarkdecays at the LHC accelerator. On the one hand it performs CP-violationmeasurements and, on the other hand, it looks for indirect effects of possiblephysics beyond the standard model on these CP-asymmetries, as well as on raredecay modes of flavour changing particle decays.

ICCUB has beenvery strongly involved in the construction of the detector, developing thereadout electronics of the SPD detector as part of the calorimeters. At presentit is highly involved in the R&D phase, developing the new version of thereadout electronics for the calorimeter and the electronics for the newtracking detector. On data analysis thegroup is mainly focused in the study of radiative decays of B mesons as well asrare decays to search for hints of new physics.

The selected candidate is expected to have a significantcontribution in the analysis of radiative flavour decaysobserved in the LHCb experiment.
