The initiative has been well received and the visit requests were filled a few days after opening the inscriptions. Each visit was attended by about 60 people, divided into three groups, and guided by OAdM astronomers have visited Joan Oró telescope, the largest in Catalonia and one of the most advanced in Europe in robotics; the telescope Fabra-ROA Montsec and the telescope XO-Montsec, and they have known how they work and what kind of research do. They have also noted the All-Sky camera IEEC, a camera to detect dangerous meteors and asteroids near Earth.

“The aim of these tours is to bring astronomical research done in Catalonia and the instruments that we have to do,” said Kike Herrero, an astronomer working on the OAdM (IEEC). Herrero said, “Visitors have been particularly grateful to have free access to a scientific facility usually closed to the public.”

Following the success of the first season guided visits to the observatory; astronomers hope to repeat OAdM from the spring of 2017. [NOT TRANSLATED]
