How can EU space technology benefit international development and humanitarian aid? This is the question <\/span>the <\/span>6th CASSINI Hackathon<\/a> addresses, which will be held from <\/span>3 to 5 November 2023<\/b> in Barcelona (Baix Llobregat Campus, Castelldefels). The aim of this edition is to show how data generated by Earth Observation and satellite navigation technologies (GNSS) can support important global challenges related to climate change, population flow and water management, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the theme <\/span>\u2018Space for International Development & Humanitarian Aid\u2019<\/b>, the Hackathon will be held online and in-person at <\/span>11 locations in Europe<\/span><\/a>. This is an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurs, students, engineers, designers and business specialists to collaborate on a space project, with no need of experience in the sector. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Catalan Edition will be hosted by four co-organisers: <\/span>Fundaci\u00f3 Privada Knowledge Innovation Market<\/span><\/a> (KIMbcn), the <\/span>Barcelona Chamber of Commerce<\/span><\/a>, the <\/span>Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a> (IEEC) and the <\/span>Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia<\/span><\/a> (ICGC). In addition, we will have the collaboration of the <\/span>Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia<\/span><\/a> (PMT) and the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering<\/a> (EETAC) of the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya \u00b7 BarcelonaTech<\/a> (UPC), where the event will take place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hackathon competitors will use <\/span>Earth Observation and GNSS technologies<\/b> to develop their own innovative solutions for one of three challenges<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Supporting sustainable infrastructure development.<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Strengthening food security & access to clean water.<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Understanding and forecasting forced migration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Airbus<\/a> collaborates in this edition of the hackathon by contributing to the prizes for the best projects (2000 euros for the first place, 600 for the second and 400 for the third), as well as providing mentoring support during the event to all the projects that are developed. Moreover, <\/span>the top three teams across all European hackathons will gain access to CASSINI Mentoring<\/b>, a 6-month mentoring programme designed to turn their hackathon project into a successful business.<\/span><\/p>\n
