The project ‘ARES III: Mission to Mars\u2019, developed by 4th year ESO students from <\/span>Cor de Maria de Valls<\/span><\/a> (Tarragona), receives <\/span>1st prize in the STEAM modality<\/b> in the international \u2018<\/span>Ciencia en Acci\u00f3n<\/span><\/a>\u2019 competition. The ‘Ciencia en Acci\u00f3n’ contest, which in its XXIV edition took place on October 27, 28 and 29 in Viladecans (Barcelona), is an initiative of the <\/span>Red Innpulso<\/span><\/a> that aims to present science in an attractive and motivating way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project ‘ARES III: Mission to Mars’<\/span> shows <\/span>different aspects of human expansion to Mars<\/b> based on a model of <\/span>N\u00fcwa<\/span><\/a>, a prototype for a self-sustaining city on that planet led by researchers from the <\/span>Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a> (IEEC) at the <\/span>Institute of Space Sciences<\/span><\/a> (ICE-CSIC); the <\/span>Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech<\/span><\/a> (UPC); the <\/span>School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa<\/span><\/a> (ESEIAAT \u2013 UPC) and the <\/span>Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona<\/span><\/a> (ICCUB), together with the <\/span>Institute of Marine Sciences<\/span><\/a> (ICM, CSIC).<\/span><\/p>\n

The students of the Cor de Maria de Valls, accompanied by professors Imma Abad and Xavier Masip, addressed the topic of <\/span>trips to Mars, exploring everything from scientific discovery to the expansion of human beings to other worlds<\/b>. During the development of the project, the students had the opportunity to collaborate with different experts on the subject, such as the scientists of the <\/span>Hypatia I Mission<\/span><\/a> or Miquel Sureda, space and aeronautical engineering professor at the UPC and also an IEEC member.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
