Aix\u00f2 proporciona una oportunitat sense precedents d\u2019estudiar l\u2019energia fosca<\/li>\n<li>Nom\u00e9s amb el primer any de funcionament DESI ha sobrepassat el conjunt de tots els mapes espectrosc\u00f2pics en 3D previs i ha confirmat les bases de l&#8217;actual model de l&#8217;univers. La llum d&#8217;objectes extremament llunyans est\u00e0 arribant ara a l&#8217;Instrument Espectrosc\u00f2pic de l&#8217;Energia Fosca (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/projecte\/28\/desi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DESI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, per <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, en angl\u00e8s), un projecte liderat pel <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (LBNL), que ens permet cartografiar l&#8217;univers quan era jove i seguir el seu creixement fins al que observem avui dia. Entendre com l\u2019univers ha evolucionat est\u00e0 directament relacionat amb com acabar\u00e0, i amb un dels misteris m\u00e9s grans de la f\u00edsica: l&#8217;energia fosca, el misteri\u00f3s component que fa que l&#8217;univers s&#8217;expandeixi cada cop m\u00e9s de pressa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per estudiar els efectes de l&#8217;energia fosca en els darrers 11.000 milions d&#8217;anys, DESI ha creat el mapa en 3D del cosmos m\u00e9s gran mai constru\u00eft, amb les mesures m\u00e9s precises fins ara. \u00c9s la primera vegada que els cient\u00edfics mesuren la hist\u00f2ria de l&#8217;expansi\u00f3 de l&#8217;univers jove amb una precisi\u00f3 millor que l&#8217;1%, cosa que proporciona la millor descripci\u00f3 existent de la seva evoluci\u00f3. Les an\u00e0lisis del primer any de dades s&#8217;han fet p\u00fabliques en un seguit d&#8217;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/data.desi.lbl.gov\/doc\/papers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">articles cient\u00edfics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> que apareixeran aquesta nit al repositori <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/list\/astro-ph\/new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arXiv <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">i en diverses pon\u00e8ncies a la reuni\u00f3 de l&#8217;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/march.aps.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Physical Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> als EUA i als <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/moriond.in2p3.fr\/2024\/Cosmology\/cosmology-agenda.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rencontres de Moriond<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a It\u00e0lia. Aquests s\u00f3n els primers resultats de quarta generaci\u00f3 sobre l\u2019energia fosca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; link_font=&#8221;|700|||on||||&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De moment, sembla que els primers resultats de DESI estan d&#8217;acord amb les prediccions del model actual<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, diu <\/span><b>Hui Kong<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, investigadora postdoctoral a l&#8217;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifae.es\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institut de F\u00edsica d&#8217;Altes Energies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IFAE). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hi ha alguns indicis que apunten a petites variacions temporals en la densitat d&#8217;energia fosca, per\u00f2 necessitarem m\u00e9s dades per confirmar-ho<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El model te\u00f2ric de refer\u00e8ncia per a l&#8217;univers es coneix com a Lambda CDM. Inclou tant un tipus de mat\u00e8ria que interacciona molt poc (la mat\u00e8ria fosca freda o CDM per les sigles en angl\u00e8s, <i>Cold Dark Matter<\/i>) com energia fosca (Lambda). Mat\u00e8ria i energia fosques condicionen l\u2019expansi\u00f3 de l\u2019univers, per\u00f2 de maneres oposades. Tant la mat\u00e8ria normal com la fosca alenteixen l&#8217;expansi\u00f3, mentre que l&#8217;energia fosca l&#8217;accelera. Per tant, la quantitat que n&#8217;hi ha de cadascuna determina l&#8217;evoluci\u00f3 de l&#8217;univers. A mesurea que DESI vagi acumulant m\u00e9s informaci\u00f3 durant els propers anys, aquests primers resultats es faran m\u00e9s precisos, i aclariran si les dades apunten que cal canviar el model te\u00f2ric o si hi ha altres explicacions per a les mesures obtingudes. M\u00e9s dades implicaran tamb\u00e9 una millora d&#8217;altres resultats inicials de DESI, que fan refer\u00e8ncia a la constant de Hubble (una mesura de la velocitat a qu\u00e8 s&#8217;expandeix l&#8217;univers avui dia) i a la massa de les part\u00edcules elementals anomenades neutrins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abDESI, fins i tot nom\u00e9s amb les dades del seu primer any de funcionament, ja \u00e9s el cartografiat espectrosc\u00f2pic que ha pres m\u00e9s dades de la hist\u00f2ria i continua augmentant aquesta quantitat a ra\u00f3 d&#8217;un mili\u00f3 de gal\u00e0xies cada mes\u00bb, diu <b>Eusebio S\u00e1nchez<\/b>, investigador del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciemat.es\/\">CIEMAT<\/a>. \u00abAquest extraordinari conjunt de dades fa que puguem mesurar la hist\u00f2ria de l&#8217;expansi\u00f3 de l&#8217;univers amb una precisi\u00f3 sense precedents. Estem segurs que DESI augmentar\u00e0 el nostre coneixement de l&#8217;univers i potser ens permetr\u00e0 fer descobriments revolucionaris\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La precisi\u00f3 general de DESI en la mesura de la velocitat d&#8217;expansi\u00f3 al llarg d\u201911.000 milions d&#8217;anys \u00e9s d&#8217;un 0,5% i en l&#8217;\u00e8poca m\u00e9s distant, que cobreix entre 8.000 i 11.000 milions d&#8217;anys, \u00e9s d\u2019un 0,82%. Aquesta mesura de l&#8217;univers jove \u00e9s molt dif\u00edcil de fer. L&#8217;instrument amb qu\u00e8 observa es va construir i opera amb finan\u00e7ament de l&#8217;Oficina de Ci\u00e8ncia del Departament d&#8217;Energia nord-americ\u00e0 (DOE, Department of Energy), i est\u00e0 instal\u00b7lat al telescopi Nicholas U. Mayall, de 4 m, situat al <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/noirlab.edu\/public\/programs\/kitt-peak-national-observatory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kitt Peak National Observatory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, un programa de NOIRLab, de la National Science Foundation (NSF).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mirant el mapa de DESI, \u00e9s f\u00e0cil apreciar l&#8217;estructura subjacent de l&#8217;univers: gal\u00e0xies acumulades en filaments, separats per buits amb menys objectes. L&#8217;univers primerenc era, per\u00f2, molt diferent: una sopa densa i calenta de part\u00edcules subat\u00f2miques movent-se tan r\u00e0pid que encara no es podia formar mat\u00e8ria estable com els \u00e0toms que avui coneixem. Entre aquestes part\u00edcules hi havia nuclis d&#8217;hidrogen i d&#8217;heli, col\u00b7lectivament anomenats barions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fluctuacions diminutes en aquest plasma inicial van provocar ones de pressi\u00f3, fent que els barions es moguessin amb un patr\u00f3 d&#8217;oscil\u00b7lacions que \u00e9s similar al que es veuria en llan\u00e7ar un grapat de sorra en un estany. Quan l&#8217;univers es va anar expandint i refredant, es van formar els \u00e0toms, i les ones de pressi\u00f3 es van aturar, el que va congelar aquestes ondulacions en tres dimensions en forma de bombolles, i va posar la llavor de les futures gal\u00e0xies a les zones m\u00e9s denses. Milers de milions d&#8217;anys despr\u00e9s, encara podem observar un senyal molt feble d&#8217;aquestes bombolles com una separaci\u00f3 caracter\u00edstica entre gal\u00e0xies, una propietat anomenada oscil\u00b7lacions ac\u00fastiques dels barions (BAO, per <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baryon Acoustic Oscillations<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> en angl\u00e8s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Els investigadors utilitzen les mesures de l&#8217;escala BAO com un regle c\u00f2smic. Mesurant la mida aparent de les bombolles, s\u00f3n capa\u00e7os de determinar la dist\u00e0ncia a la mat\u00e8ria responsable d&#8217;aquest debil\u00edssim patr\u00f3 en el cel. Els investigadors treballen amb dades emmascarades i desenvolupen tot el proc\u00e9s d&#8217;an\u00e0lisi sense con\u00e8ixer la informaci\u00f3 veritable. Gil Mar\u00edn i altres investigadors de l&#8217;ICCUB han desenvolupat i implementat el que va resultar ser una forma molt robusta i dif\u00edcil de desxifrar, per ocultar els resultats de l&#8217;agrupaci\u00f3 de gal\u00e0xies a DESI fins que es complet\u00e9s l&#8217;an\u00e0lisi. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estem segurs que l\u2019esfor\u00e7 extra que aix\u00f2 va implicar millorar\u00e0 la confian\u00e7a i la integritat en els resultats de DESI<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, comenta Gil Mar\u00edn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les dades de DESI s&#8217;usaran a m\u00e9s com a complement de futurs cartografiats del cel com l&#8217;Observatori Vera C. La divisi\u00f3 d\u2019enginyeria de l\u2019IEEC desenvolupa instrumentaci\u00f3 per a projectes terrestres i espacials, i t\u00e9 una \u00e0mplia experi\u00e8ncia treballant amb organitzacions privades i p\u00fabliques del sector aeroespacial aix\u00ed com altres sectors d\u2019innovaci\u00f3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019IEEC \u00e9s una fundaci\u00f3 del sector p\u00fablic sense \u00e0nim de lucre, fundada el febrer de 1996. Est\u00e0 regit per un Patronat compost per la Generalitat de Catalunya, la Universitat de Barcelona (UB), la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB), la Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya \u00b7 BarcelonaTech (UPC), i el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas (CSIC).
