One more year, the <\/span>Montsec Observatory<\/span><\/a> (OdM) organises guided tours to its facilities. Managed by the <\/span>Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a> (IEEC \u2014 Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya), the OdM is a state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure, located in Sant Esteve de la Sarga (Pallars Juss\u00e0) and inside the Or\u00edgens UNESCO Global Geopark.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its facilities are reserved for scientific use and, therefore, are closed to the general public. But several days a year, <\/span>the Observatory opens its doors.<\/b><\/p>\n

These sessions offer the opportunity to take a tour to the Observatory’s infrastructure and equipment, such as its <\/span>astronomical telescopes,<\/b> among them the Joan Or\u00f3 Telescope (in honour of the well-known biochemist from Lleida), <\/span>satellite communications infrastructure,<\/b> Earth Observation satellite calibration systems, and <\/span>atmospheric measurement services,<\/b> all of them based on innovative technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n

IEEC astronomers will explain how the equipment works, what scientific discoveries have been made recently, and how communication with nanosatellites is carried out.<\/span><\/p>\n
