This is the second Martian analog mission carried out by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hypatiamars.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hypatia Mars<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> association and will run until 15 February.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An all-female crew of 7 scientists (with two back-up astronauts) spanning different ages and disciplines will live in isolation during the mission, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February). Among them is Estel Blay, Program Manager at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IEEC \u2014 Institut d\u2019Estudis Espacials de Catalunya). She is working on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/esaphilabnet-spain.ieec.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESA Phi-LabNET Spain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program, supporting innovation for the commercialisation of space technologies aimed at enhancing climate resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Hypatia II mission will study the female body under simulation conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as the female crew replicates a human mission to Mars over two weeks. The research is being conducted in collaboration with leading hospitals and research institutes in Catalonia, including the Sant Pau Research Institute, Sant Pau Hospital, the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), and Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Hypatia II crew will conduct experiments and test equipment to assess the feasibility of a future mission to Mars,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which will take place under isolated conditions with limited access to food, water, and communication with Earth, in an environment designed to mimic the terrain and conditions of\u00a0 the red planet. The mission involves a collaborative effort with more than 20 research institutions, universities, companies, and schools worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The European Space Agency is funding one of the satellite calibration projects. During extravehicular activities outside the MDRS, the Hypatia II crew will install a trihedral reflector in the Utah desert.
