The seventh edition of the Forum took place on Wednesday, June 18, at the Aula Magna of Casa Convalesc\u00e8ncia at the UAB, located within the modernist complex of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona. The event was attended by nearly 170 participants from the institute\u2019s four research units: <\/span>the <\/span>Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona<\/span><\/a> (ICCUB); the <\/span>Centre for Space Studies and Research of the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/span><\/a> (CERES, UAB); the <\/span>Space Science and Technology group of the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya \u2013 BarcelonaTech<\/span><\/a> (CTE, UPC) and the <\/span>Institute of Space Sciences<\/span><\/a> (ICE-CSIC).<\/span><\/p>\n The day began with a welcome session led by IEEC director Ignasi Ribas, who will step down from his position in September to dedicate himself exclusively to research.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” link_font=”|700|||on||||” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n The Forum featured a full programme of talks and roundtable discussions on current scientific and technological topics. Among the highlights were contributions from guest speakers such as <\/span>Xavier Barcons<\/b>, Director General of the <\/span>European Southern Observatory (ESO)<\/span><\/a>, who spoke about Europe\u2019s leadership in ground-based astronomy, and <\/span>Francisco Doblas<\/b> (<\/span>Barcelona Supercomputing Center<\/span><\/a>), who took part in a discussion on the role of supercomputing in space research.<\/span><\/p>\n Participants \u2014 including researchers, engineers, and administrative and support staff \u2014 also enjoyed a series of <\/span>panels and presentations on major international astronomical missions<\/b> such as Euclid, LSST, PhotSat, and Gaia, as well as updates on<\/span> new infrastructure at the Montsec Observatory<\/b>, including the new Wide-Field Fast Telescope (TRAC, by its Catalan acronym). The programme also focused on the <\/span>growing NewSpace sector and the opportunities it offers.<\/b><\/p>\n Following the tradition of previous editions, the Forum gave young researchers and engineers the opportunity to present posters showcasing their recent or ongoing projects. The posters were on display throughout the day, and attendees were invited to vote for the most interesting one.
