global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earth Observation is becoming an essential tool for the winegrowing sector, providing valuable information to support more efficient and sustainable decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>MOT project (&#8216;Earth Observation Module for PixelSuite&#8217;)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, developed by the Catalan company <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spascat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SPASCAT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has created an <\/span><b>innovative methodology using satellite data to optimise the management of vineyards and fruit orchards.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project has focused on plots at the Raimat estate, owned by the company <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/raventoscodorniu.com\/en\/inicio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Codorn\u00edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in order to validate MOT\u2019s functionalities on the ground and enhance the sustainability and quality of the crops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; link_font=&#8221;|700|||on||||&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The application combines satellite data, aerial orthophotos, and ground measurements to <\/span><b>provide a global and detailed view of the condition of the plots.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Through vegetation index maps and the automatic definition of inspection points, MOT supports the work of viticulture technicians and <\/span><b>helps optimise the use of resources such as water, fertilisers, and plant protection products.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project has also involved the company <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agropixel.com\/ca\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Agrop\u00edxel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which collaborated with the application developed by SPASCAT to enhance its agronomic analysis and consulting activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project was part of the first <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/resolution-of-the-first-earth-observation-use-case-ideas-competition-for-the-private-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Earth Observation Use Case Ideas Competition for the Private Sector\u2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, coordinated by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IEEC \u2014 Institut d\u2019Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) in collaboration with the Institut Cartogr\u00e0fic i Geol\u00f2gic de Catalunya (ICGC). This initiative is framed within <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/politiquesdigitals.gencat.cat\/ca\/economia\/estrategia-new-space-catalunya\/index.html#googtrans(ca%7Cen)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Catalonia\u2019s NewSpace Strategy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, promoted by the Government of Catalonia and implemented in collaboration with the IEEC, ICGC, and the i2CAT Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_video src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nFWC_uEuUZo&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; max_width=&#8221;75%&#8221; module_alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_video][et_pb_video _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_video][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text module_class=&#8221;section-title&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_2_font=&#8221;|700|||||||&#8221; header_2_font_size=&#8221;25px&#8221; header_2_font_size_tablet=&#8221;23px&#8221; header_2_font_size_phone=&#8221;23px&#8221; header_2_font_size_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enhanced resolution thanks to Menut<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; link_font=&#8221;|700|||on||||&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the project\u2019s highlights has been the integration of data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/politiquesdigitals.gencat.cat\/ca\/economia\/estrategia-new-space-catalunya\/missions-satellitaries\/menut\/index.html#googtrans(ca%7Cen)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menut<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Catalonia\u2019s second nanosatellite, launched into orbit in January 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>data from Menut has been integrated with that of Sentinel-2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an Earth observation satellite from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.copernicus.eu\/en\/about-copernicus\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">European Union\u2019s Copernicus programme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which enables the calculation of various vegetation indices. <\/span><b>The combination of the two satellites has increased the amount of available information<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> thanks to a higher data frequency. IEEC fosters collaborations both locally and worldwide and is an efficient agent of knowledge, innovation and technology transfer. As a result of more than 25 years of high-quality research, done in collaboration with major international organisations, IEEC ranks among the best international research centres, focusing on areas such as: astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, and Earth Observation.
