It has been commissioned by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IEEC), in collaboration with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifae.es\/es\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institut de F\u00edsica d\u2019Altes Energies (IFAE)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This infrastructure is <\/span><b>designed for testing microsatellites, in-orbit technology demonstrators and instrumentation,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is located on the Bellaterra Campus of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uab.cat\/web\/universitat-autonoma-de-barcelona-1345467954409.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in Cerdanyola del Vall\u00e8s (Barcelona).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event, led by Miquel S\u00e0mper, Minister of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/empresa.gencat.cat\/ca\/inici\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business and Labour<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was attended by Teresa Sanchis, Director General for Research at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/recercaiuniversitats.gencat.cat\/ca\/inici\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry of Research and Universities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; the Director of the IEEC, Xavier Luri; the Director of the IFAE, Eugenio Coccia; the Rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente; and the Director of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cerca.cat\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instituci\u00f3 Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avan\u00e7ats<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (I-CERCA), Laia Pellej\u00e0, among other institutional representatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This new infrastructure <\/span><b>is aimed at companies, agencies and research centres in the space sector<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that need to test satellites, subsystems or components under conditions representative of the space environment prior to launch. IEEC fosters collaborations both locally and worldwide and is an efficient agent of knowledge, innovation and technology transfer. As a result of more than 25 years of high-quality research, done in collaboration with major international organisations, IEEC ranks among the best international research centres, focusing on areas such as: astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, and Earth Observation. IEEC\u2019s engineering division develops instrumentation for ground- and space-based projects, and has extensive experience in working with private or public organisations from the aerospace and other innovation sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The IEEC is a non-profit public sector foundation that was established in February 1996. It has a Board of Trustees composed of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB), Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya \u00b7 BarcelonaTech (UPC), and the Spanish Research Council (CSIC).
