During the placement, Aran worked on <\/span>exoplanet photometry, analysing data from transits<\/b> (minor eclipses caused when planets pass in front of their host star) observed using the <\/span>Joan Or\u00f3 Telescope<\/span><\/a> (TJO), in preparation for the <\/span>Ariel<\/span><\/a> mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). At the same time, she participated in supervising the operations of the observatory’s robotic telescopes and helping set up astronomical instrumentation for the <\/span>Wide-Field Fast Telescope<\/span><\/a> (TRAC), the latest telescope installed at the Observatory, in May 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n Additionally, the student had the opportunity to attend two high-level events: the <\/span>Space Economy Congress<\/span><\/a>, where she gained first-hand insight into the growing Catalan and international space sector, and the <\/span>XVII Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society<\/span><\/a>, held this year in Tarragona with significant participation from the IEEC’s various research units.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text module_class=”section-title” _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”|700|||||||” header_2_font_size=”25px” hover_enabled=”0″ header_2_font_size_tablet=”23px” header_2_font_size_phone=”23px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” link_font=”|700|||on||||” hover_enabled=”0″ locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n During his six-week placement with the <\/span>Supernovae and Stellar Transients<\/span><\/a> group at the <\/span>Institute of Space Sciences<\/span><\/a> (ICE-CSIC), Daniel Criado worked on <\/span>searching for and studying supernovae in optical and infrared images<\/b> captured by ESA\u2019s <\/span>Euclid<\/span><\/a> space telescope. Researcher Llu\u00eds Galbany mentored this student, who, using a database of transient phenomena discovered since Euclid began operations in 2023, identified which of these objects had also been observed by the space telescope. This search yielded around 300 candidates, roughly fifty of which had already been classified as supernovae.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally, he measured the brightness of these transients in the Euclid images and combined these measurements with public light curves from the ZTF and ATLAS projects.
