This section of the Hall is organized by the Catalan Foundation of Research and Innovation (FCRI) in order to attract young people to science and to promote scientific and technological vocations.<\/p>\n

LISA and GAIA space missions<\/p>\n

On the one hand, researchers Carlos F. Sopuerta and Victor Martin from LISA gravitational Astronomy group at the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC-CSIC)<\/a> have explained in the stand of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) the ESA mission LISA Pathfinder, in which they play a prominent role. Students were able to learn how many people works in a space mission and, more specifically, what is the objective of LISA: test technology to detect gravitational waves in space.<\/p>\n

The stand of CERCA (Centres de Recerca de Catalunya) has held the activity: \u201cWe measure cosmic distances with GAIA\u201d directed by researchers Laia Casamiquela and Ignasi P\u00e9rez of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (IEEC-UB).<\/a> Visitors to the stand were able to see up close how GAIA telescopes works thanks to a model of the spacecraft and a laser beam that mimics the starlight. This mission will allow scientists to create a 3D map of our galaxy.<\/p>\n

Espai Ci\u00e8ncia<\/p>\n

Espai Ci\u00e8ncia is proposed as a tool for young students of secondary and high schools to decide their future careers so they can have a first practical contact with the world of science and technology to motivate them and to route their professional future towards a scientific career.<\/p>\n

This space of popularization of science for young people 15 to 18 years, integrates 14 universities, research centers and other Catalan institutions related to science, offering a program of educational activities and interactive scientific experiments.<\/p>\n
