Aix\u00ed mateix, el projecte ha rebut l\u2019Overall Winner Award, que distingeix la millor iniciativa dels Copernicus M\u00e0sters.<\/p>\n<p>El projecte, anomenat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-masters.com\/winner\/ffscat-towards-federated-eo-systems\/\">FSSCat: Federated Satellite System 6U tandem mission for sea ice and soil moisture monitoring<\/a>  i premiat la nit del 7 de novembre a Tallin (Est\u00f2nia), en el marc de la celebraci\u00f3 de la Setmana Europea de l\u2019Espai 2017, compta amb la participaci\u00f3 de la companyia d\u2019enginyeria de sistemes espacials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elecnor-deimos.com\/delegacion\/deimos-engenharia\/\">DEIMOS Engenharia<\/a> \u2014branca portuguesa de la internacional Elecnor Deimos\u2014 i de <a href=\"https:\/\/gomspace.com\/home.aspx\">GOMSpace<\/a>, fabricant dan\u00e8s de petites plataformes de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits, ambdues l\u00edders als seu pa\u00efsos.<\/p>\n<p>Concretament, el projecte presentat per <a href=\"http:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/AdrianoJoseCampsCarmona\">Adriano Camps<\/a>, coordinador cient\u00edfic de la Unitat Mar\u00eda de Maeztu <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tsc.upc.edu\/es\/investigacion\/commsenslab\">CommSensLab<\/a>, de la Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya (UPC), i <a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.skoltech.ru\/people\/alessandrogolkar\">Alessandro Golkar<\/a>, professor visitant procedentde <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skoltech.ru\/en\">l\u2019Institut de Ci\u00e8ncia i Tecnologia de Skolkovo (Skoltech)<\/a> ha estat distingit, d\u2019entre un total de 39 equips d\u2019arreu del m\u00f3n, com la millor soluci\u00f3 dels <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-masters.com\/prize\/esa-challenge\/\">Sentinel Small Sat (S^3) Challenge Award<\/a>, una iniciativa destinada a impulsar una nova fam\u00edlia de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits, anomenada \u2018Sentinel\u2019 (sentinella), alhora que a estimular tecnologies innovadores que facilitin les missions d\u2019aquestes flotes de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits petits. Aquests aparells, en un futur, poden ser complementaris o poden aportar valor afegit als grans sistemes de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits europeus desenvolupats per a l\u2019observaci\u00f3 de la Terra fins ara.<\/p>\n<p>Dotada amb un mili\u00f3 d\u2019euros, despeses de llan\u00e7ament a part, aquesta distinci\u00f3 permet a l\u2019equip guanyador llan\u00e7ar dos petits sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits amb equipament cient\u00edfic a bord per mesurar la humitat del s\u00f2l, una variable crucial per a l\u2019agricultura i per calcular els \u00edndexs de riscos d\u2019incendi, aix\u00ed com el gruix de gel a les regions polars, un par\u00e0metre fonamental per a la navegaci\u00f3 mar\u00edtima i per seguir l\u2019evoluci\u00f3 del canvi clim\u00e0tic. Al mateix temps, el llan\u00e7ament servir\u00e0 per experimentar amb tecnologies innovadores en l\u2019\u00f2rbita terrestre.<\/p>\n<p>Com a guanyador general (Overall Winner Award) dels <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-masters.com\/prize\/esa-challenge\/\">Copernicus Masters Challenge Awards<\/a>, l\u2019equip podr\u00e0 assistir al llan\u00e7ament per sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit ADM-Aeolus de l\u2019ESA \u2014previst els propers mesos desde Kourou (Guaiana Francesa) per realitzar observacions dels vents mundial\u2014 i rebr\u00e0 una segona dotaci\u00f3 econ\u00f2mica.<\/p>\n<p>A m\u00e9s, com la iniciativa s\u2019inclou entre les 50 millors de la competici\u00f3, est\u00e0 seleccionada per formar part del programa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-masters.com\/accelerator\/\">Acelerador Cop\u00e8rnic<\/a> per fer realitat el projecte.<\/p>\n<p>Llan\u00e7ament previst per al 2019<\/p>\n<p>Durant el primer llan\u00e7ament, previst per al primer trimestre del 2019 des de la Guaiana Francesa, els petits sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits recopilaran dades sobre la humitat del s\u00f2l millorant de manera significativa la resoluci\u00f3 espacial actual des de 50 km fins a uns 100 m. Es far\u00e0 mitjan\u00e7ant unes t\u00e8cniques innovadores desenvolupades per la UPC i <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icm.csic.es\/\">l\u2019Institut de Ci\u00e8ncies del Mar<\/a> del Centre Superior d\u2019Investigacions Cient\u00edfiques (CSIC), amb el suport de l\u2019<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/ca\/\">IEEC<\/a> i en el marc del projecte <a href=\"https:\/\/earth.esa.int\/web\/guest\/missions\/esa-operational-eo-missions\/smos\">Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS)<\/a>, i per Elecnor Deimos a Portugal.  Una tecnologia que ha anat evolucionat des de fa m\u00e9s de 15 anys en el marc d\u2019altres missions de l\u2019ESA (PARIS IoD, o la proposta G-TERN Earth Explorer 9,\u2026), aix\u00ed com de projectes nacionals i europeus (E-GEM, SenSyF i ONION, entre d\u2019altres.<\/p>\n<p>Aquesta missi\u00f3 comprovar\u00e0, en particular, el nou concepte de \u2018missi\u00f3 federada\u2019, en la qual l\u2019objectiu de la missi\u00f3, es comparteix entre diversos sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits. En aquest cas, els sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits, amb una dimensi\u00f3 aproximada d\u2019una funda per a port\u00e0tils, volaran a l\u2019espai a una altitud de 450 a 550 km, separats entre ells per uns pocs centenars de quil\u00f2metres. Aquests petits sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits es comunicaran entre ells mitjan\u00e7ant feixos de l\u00e0ser \u00f2ptics, una tecnologia avan\u00e7ada que permet transmetre grans volums d\u2019informaci\u00f3 amb menys interfer\u00e8ncies que les que es produeixen en els enlla\u00e7os radioel\u00e8ctrics entre els sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits actuals. Un tecnologia, per tant, que \u00e9s fonamental per establir xarxes de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits robustes fiables a l\u2019espai i que fins ara nom\u00e9s s\u2019ha provat en els sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits grans.<\/p>\n<p>Per al professor Adriano Camps, que tamb\u00e9 codirigeix el <a href=\"https:\/\/nanosatlab.upc.edu\/en\">NanoSat Lab<\/a> de la UPC,\u201cestem davant un canvi de paradigma sobre la manera de contractaci\u00f3 de l\u2019ESA. Aix\u00f2 \u00e9s clarament un punt d\u2019inflexi\u00f3\u201d. Camps considera aquest guard\u00f3 \u201cun clar reconeixement  a escala europea de la tasca que l\u2019equip porta fent des de fa m\u00e9s de vint anys en el camp de la teledetecci\u00f3, i des de fa deu en el sector dels nano sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits per l\u2019observaci\u00f3 de la Terra\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Segons explica Nuno \u00c1vila, gerent general d\u2019Elecnor Deimos a Portugal, \u201cels sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits funcionaran en sinergia. Un concepte innovador anomenat sistema federat o sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit fraccionat, en qu\u00e8 cada sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit s\u2019especialitza i realitza tasques particulars, que es conjuguen per aconseguir un resultat global millor. D\u2019aquesta manera, es poden utilitzar constel\u00b7lacions de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits petits de baix cost en comptes de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits de gran cost. A m\u00e9s, el risc de frac\u00e0s en la missi\u00f3 es mitiga perqu\u00e8 no estem posant els ous en la mateixa cistella\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Innovaci\u00f3 i experi\u00e8ncia en nanosat\u00e8l\u00b7lits<\/p>\n<p>Gran part de la tecnologia que es posar\u00e0 en \u00f2rbita a bord d\u2019aquests petits sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits, anomenats 3Cat-5\/A i 3Cat-5\/B, procedeix de l\u2019experi\u00e8ncia i de la tecnologia desenvolupada per estudiantat i investigadors de la UPC al NanoSat Lab, un laboratori impulsat per la Universitat amb el suport de l\u2019IEEC.<\/p>\n<p>Un d\u2019aquests nanosat\u00e8l\u00b7its \u00e9s el 3Cat-2, que va ser el primer catal\u00e0 en posar-se en \u00f2rbita a l\u2019espai, l\u2019agost de l\u2019any 2016. Ho va fer amb tres experiments a bord per demostrar la viabilitat de diverses t\u00e8cniques i tecnologies vinculades a l\u2019\u00fas dels senyals dels sistemes de navegaci\u00f3 per sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit per a usos de teledetecci\u00f3, aix\u00ed com per provar instrumentaci\u00f3 per a una futura missi\u00f3 de l\u2019ESA.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019any seg\u00fcent, un grup de 18 estudiants de grau, m\u00e0ster i doctorat de la UPC va ser l\u2019\u00fanic equip espanyol seleccionat entre els sis finalistes de la segona edici\u00f3 del programa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Education\/CubeSats_-_Fly_Your_Satellite\">Fly Your Satellite!<\/a>, de l\u2019ESA.
