Eduroam network at the IEEC

Eduroam is an initiative aiming to facilitate worldwide mobility to researchers and students from participating institutions, offering wireless connection to these institutions networks. Users can authenticate at their original institutions and connect to Internet using the wireless networks of the participating institutions.

Eduroam network parameters for IEEC members

These are the parameters needed to configure an eduroam connection for IEEC members:

  • Network authentication: 802.1x (EAP-TTLS)
  • Encryption: WPA-TKIP / WPA2-AES
  • Authentication method: PAP
  • Anonymous identity: anonymous@ieec.cat
  • Radius server certificate: IEEC Radius server
  • Certificate Authority: Radius IEEC CA

If you use Windows, you'll need at least Windows 8 to connect and you should follow these steps (there may be small changes on different Windows versions)):

  1. Open network properties, for example, right-clicking on the Network icon in File Explorer.
  2. Choose “Set up a new connection or network”.
  3. Choose “Manually connect to a wireless network”.
  4. Fill in these values:
    • Network Name: eduroam
    • Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encrytion Type: AES
    • Security Key: Leave empty
    and click on “Next”
  5. On the “Successfully added screen”, click on “Change connection settings”
  6. Click on the “Security” tab
  7. Make sure that “Unencrypted password (PAP)” is chosen for “Select a non-EAP method for authentication”.
  8. Choose “Radius IEEC CA” from the “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” list (you'll probably need to install the certificate authority before this).
  9. Choose “User authentication” from the “authentication mode” drop-down.
  10. Click on “Ok”.

If you are using a Mac OSX system with a version higher than 10.6, you'll need to download the Apple application “Apple Configurator 2” from the “App Store”, to configure the parameters (EAP-TTLS+PAP configuration support not included in versions higher than 10.6) in the wifi section and create a mobileconfig file. Opening this file on the device you want to connect should configure automatically eduroam.

Users from other institutions should use the connection method provided by their institution.
