The Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which will scan the southern sky for a decade, released its first images at the end of June. Among them is this close-up of two galaxies in the Virgo cluster. The large number of asteroids streaking across this portion of the night sky has not gone unnoticed, as their paths are revealed by the multicoloured streaks scattered across the image.
