The total solar eclipse of 12 August
Description

On 12 August 2026, around half past eight in the evening, the Moon completely covered the Sun and the sky darkened for a brief period of time: we experienced a total solar eclipse, a phenomenon we had not witnessed in Catalonia since 1905. In Salou, where this image was taken, totality lasted one minute and six seconds. The eclipse allowed us to observe phenomena such as the prominence appearing on the left of the illustration, a plasma structure tens of thousands of kilometres across sustained by the action of the Sun's magnetic fields.
