Computer technician for Gaia DPCB in the Gaia Barcelona research team
The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) was established in February 1996 as a private non-profit foundation (NPO) to promote R&D in the space field in Catalonia. The IEEC is a research institute that studies all areas of knowledge and technologies applied to the space sector and space sciences, including astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, Earth observation, navigation and space engineering. Its mission is to push the frontiers of space research from the scientific and technological fields for the maximum benefit of society. It should also be noted that the Foundation is attached to the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) and forms part of its institutional public sector due to the fact that the Generalitat has a majority involvement in the entity.

The purpose of this call is the selection process for the job of one computer technician for Gaia DPCB in the Gaia Barcelona research team.

Functions
We are looking for one computer technician to work in a multidisciplinary environment to work in an international pioneering project. We look for an informatics engineer (technic, training cycle or similar) with experience in scientific environments and informatics systems (Windows, Linux, OS). He/She will give support to a group of 25 engineers, scientists and students with all their computer needs, system administration and installation of scientific programming, including support to the data services for developments in Gaia systems DPCB and IDU. He/She will join a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with the rest of teams inside the Gaia DPAC.
The Gaia group at the Universitat de Barcelona (IEEC – ICCUB) has contributed from the beginning to the concept, development and design of the European Space Agency ESA’s Gaia mission. The Gaia satellite has been in orbit since Dec 2013. Our group is in charge of different aspects of the processing of the astrometric and photometric data for the mission. The team is formed by experts in astronomy, engineering, technology and data analysis to develop and run processing software of big amounts of data, its validation and scientific exploitation inside the European Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC). Our team is responsible of the Barcelona Data Processing Center, located in the Marenostrum supercomputer.

Participation requirements and selection criteria
- Studies technical computing (medium training cycle, superior training cycle or similar)
- High motivation to work in a leading research at an international level.
- Experience in Network systems (Communication protocols)
- Experience in Operative System Hardening
- Experience in bash scripting and software implementation
- Experience in Centos and Linux Server systems
- Knowledge in automation of tasks in Linux
- Resolution of incidents to users
- Experience maintenance of computer equipment
- Experience in monitoring networks and computer systems
- Experience in repair, maintenance and assembly computers
- Knowledge in SQL: DML & DDL
- Experience in working with scientists and fast troubleshooting
- Experience in backup systems

- Experience in integration of communications equipment into telematics network infrastructures, determining the configuration to ensure their connectivity

Selection procedure
Initially, a verification of the requirements of participation and study of the curriculum will be carried out to assess aspects related to the job to be covered. Next, a first selection of candidates will be made based on the curriculum contributed.
The shortlisted candidates will be called to a personal interview and/or a test to expand the detailed information in the curriculum and assessed aspects related to professional competences.
