Families go to Mars with Hypatia Mars and the IEEC!

Families Go to Mars is an afternoon to discover, play, and dream about space together as a family. Organized by the Hypatia Mars Association, with the collaboration of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), the activity will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the IEEC headquarters in Castelldefels.
The event will begin with an informative talk about the Hypatia analogue missions, where a team of women scientists and technologists simulated life on Mars from the Utah desert. Afterwards, there will be a snack with workshops and fun activities for children, including rocket building, simulating Mars re-entry, and creative science games.
The activity uses an experiential methodology adapted to children and has a special focus on encouraging scientific vocations among primary school girls.
The event is free and in-person, and will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Organised by:
Hypatia Mars Association, Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia
Goals:
Bringing science and space exploration closer to families, fostering scientific and technological interest among children, and inspiring new generations to imagine themselves as future scientists, engineers, or space explorers.
