Antoni Pérez-Poch elected Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Class of 2027

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the world’s largest aerospace professional society, has announced its newly elected Class of 2027 Associate Fellows. Antoni Pérez-Poch, a researcher at the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), is among those selected.

The grade of Associate Fellow recognises individuals who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done original work of outstanding merit, or who have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. Only 17% of AIAA members are ever selected for this grade. To be selected, an individual must be an AIAA Senior Member in good standing, with at least 12 years of professional experience, and be recommended by three AIAA members.

The AIAA praised Pérez-Poch for his “outstanding academic performance and research, education and professional contributions, including new technical advances in parabolic flights with aerobatic aircraft and original insight in the field of space medicine.”

He added: “I would like to thank my colleagues from UPC and the IEEC for years of invaluable support. Joining this remarkable group of people—the Class of 2027 Associate Fellows—is for me both humbling and inspiring.”

With over 33,000 individual members from 91 countries, and more than 100 corporate members, the AIAA brings together industry, academia, and government to advance engineering and science in aviation, space, and defence. The Class of 2027 Associate Fellows comprises over a hundred individuals from 7 countries and 42 U.S. states.
