The ‘CASSINI Space x Water’ Hackathon, now in its eleventh edition, will offer students, professionals, entrepreneurs and creative profiles the opportunity to develop innovative solutions to tackle water-related challenges using European space data.

Held at the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC) from 24 to 26 April 2026, the hackathon is part of the CASSINI initiative, driven by the European Commission and the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). The Catalan edition is organised by Knowledge Innovation Market (KIMbcn), with the support of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) and the University of Girona (UdG), which will contribute mentoring and support to participating teams.

The CASSINI Hackathon is a European competition that promotes entrepreneurship in the space sector and brings together emerging talent to develop innovative solutions based on satellite data. Over three days, participants will work in teams to address challenges related to water access, pollution prevention and risk management, such as droughts and floods, using data from European programmes such as Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS.

The initiative presents a range of challenges, from improving water resource management to developing technological solutions for environmental monitoring. All proposals must be based on the use of European space data, and participants will have access to prior training, specific tools and the support of experts from the technological, scientific and business fields.

The winning teams of the local edition will advance to the European competition, where they will compete with other projects for cash prizes of up to €5,000. In addition, the top-ranked teams may receive specialised mentoring to further develop their solutions within the CASSINI programme.

Take part in this collaborative experience, connect with other profiles and develop your own project with real impact!

The registration period is open until 18 April 2026.
