Gaia-RIA workshop. Expanding the Gaia legacy: the role of Spanish ground-based facilities
The meeting aims to present and discuss current and future projects that use or complement Gaia data. We will analyze the contributions already made by the Spanish Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures and the international research infrastructures, our involvement in large ongoing and future photometric and spectroscopic surveys, as well as the prospects for new instrumentation accessible to our community and in a European and international framework.

The Spanish Network for Scientific Exploitation of Gaia, coordinator of these conferences, is currently composed of about 180 scientists from 30 national institutions. With this meeting we want to continue consolidating the synergies between Gaia and the Spanish infrastructures within our reach and the projects developed in them.

This meeting also intends to pay tribute to Jordi Torra, whose pioneering work in the preparation of the Hipparcos mission in the 1980s in Spain laid the foundations for the subsequent Spanish participation in the Gaia mission, leading some of its most important aspects. Jordi was also an essential driver of the strategic management of the growth of professional astronomy in Spain, contributing decisively to the creation of the RIA.
