Resounding success of the 4th Symposium on Space Educational Activities in Barcelona
Today, 29 April 2022, closes the 4th Symposium on Space Educational Activities (SSEA 2022) with resounding success, with more than 500 attendees from 34 different countries all over the world. Promoted by the European Space Agency (ESA) and locally organised by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC), SSEA 2022  has been held in Barcelona from 27 to 29 April 2022 with the collaboration of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya – IEEC) and the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the Universitat de Barcelona (ICCUB).

Since its first edition, the SSEA has emerged as the reference symposium in which the current state and future of space education activities in Europe and the world are discussed. Aimed at students and focused on educational activities in the space field at the university, the symposium gives participants the opportunity to share their results and experiences. The initiative also places special emphasis on promoting Europe’s space education in the world and on achieving the goals of equity, gender equality, diversity and sustainability.

IEEC has also supported the event as a partner in the framework of the promotion activities of the space sector as well as one of the leading centres in the coordination of the NewSpace Strategy for Catalonia, promoted by the Catalan Government. Within this framework, the Institute has been present with a booth in collaboration with the Vice-presidency and Digital Policies and Territory Department, the i2CAT Foundation and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC).

The SSEA 2022 has also attracted project managers—to help bridge the gap between activities carried out during secondary and high school and the university—, as well as local and European companies interested in space education efforts and their outcomes.
