The companies Pangea Aerospace, Aistech, Kreios Space and Albora Technologies, selected to take part in the NewSpace Catalonia Accelerator programme

Apr 26, 2024

The Government of Catalonia and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC – Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) announced last March the launch of the call for applications to join the NewSpace Catalonia Accelerator programme. The companies selected to take part in the programme are Pangea Aerospace, Aistech, Kreios Space and Albora Technologies.

The initiative, promoted within the framework of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia and in collaboration with Starburst, aims to facilitate that 4 emerging companies of the Catalan NewSpace ecosystem, with a minimum viable product ready to be accelerated, can increase their competitiveness in the space sector.

Among others, the NewSpace Catalonia Accelerator programme will include individualised mentoring for each company with specialised experts who will provide strategic support, market analysis, company positioning and business model; business development support (identification of suitable companies and users and introductions to them), and personalised support in the identification of relevant investors and introductions to them, among others.

The area of expertise and the product proposed by each selected company is briefly described below.

Pangea Aerospace

Pangea provides advanced propulsion systems for the entire space industry, ranging from in-orbit mobility with the UNIX propulsion system to small launchers featuring its first aerospike engine, ARCOS. Pangea has developed a unique aerospike rocket engine technology that boosts the payload capacity of any given launcher while unlocking its reusability potential with unparalleled performance.

Aistech

Aistech combines its satellite data and software solutions to deliver customised data and insights, helping decision-makers accurately measure and monitor climate change and its impact across multiple sectors. Aistech has developed the first small satellite constellation equipped with an innovative proprietary telescope that offers high-resolution, high-frequency thermal images, enabling a wide range of monitoring use cases.

Kreios Space

Exploiting the Very Low Earth Orbit will allow higher-resolution images and shorter revisit rates, which could be high orders of magnitude of technical advantages for Earth observation and communications markets. Kreios Space is developing an electric propulsion system to revolutionise the satellite industry. Their Air-Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) system would allow satellites to orbit closer to Earth without using fuel.

Albora Technologies

Albora’s hardware-agnostic geolocation service, Albaspot, enhances low to mid GNSS chips found in mobile devices, assets, or vehicles by connecting them to its software platform, enabling businesses to effectively track and manage their assets. Albora has developed a high-precision geolocation solution that delivers accurate positioning coordinates ubiquitously, especially addressing challenges in environments that require precise navigation.
