IEEC participates at Mobile World Congress 2022
One more year, the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2022) lands in Barcelona. From today until 3 March, the streets of the city will be filled with technology, innovation and research in the connectivity field.

This year, the Institute for Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC – Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) is attending the congress as one of the three leading centres in the promotion of the NewSpace ecosystem, along with the i2Cat Foundation and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC). The stand of the NewSpace Strategy of the Generalitat de Catalunya—located in the Digital Catalonia Pavilion (Hall 4 – 4C1, booth 31)—aims to give visibility to the innovation and R&D activities developed within its framework.

Widely known around the world, the MWC is the most important international trade fair and congress in the technology, digital and business sectors. In its 17th edition in the Catalan capital, it is expected to be attended by between 40,000 and 60,000 people from 150 countries and to have an economic impact of 240 million euros.

IEEC, together with the i2CAT Foundation and ICGC, plays a leading role in the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, approved in the Government Agreement of 27 October 2020, which aims to promote the growth of the digital and space industry

The collaboration and coordination between IEEC, i2CAT and ICGC, together with the Catalan Government, will allow to identify and generate synergies and promote a joint strategy, developing innovation activities, R&D actions and projects to demonstrate the viability of space technology for the benefit of the NewSpace ecosystem. The complementary expertise of the three partners in space, digital and communication technologies and sciences, as well as geo-information services, is key to the new space economy. All three actors work in sync to increase competitiveness and enable innovative use cases that were not feasible before.

NewSpace has gained momentum. Public institutions, government entities, industry and society are working together to ensure the success of the NewSpace sector in Catalonia linked to technologies such as Earth Observation, IoT/5G and GNSS for the benefit of society in the era of the digital economy.
