Preliminary market consultation launched for the development of Earth Observation satellite missions

Jun 10, 2026

Today marks the publication of the preliminary market consultation aimed at analysing the capabilities of the space ecosystem for developing future Earth observation missions based on small satellites. These missions are planned under the Catalonia Space 2030 Strategy, driven by the Government of Catalonia. The initiative is promoted by the Catalan Government and coordinated by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya).

The purpose of this consultation is to gather technical, programmatic, and economic information from the sector to properly prepare the tender for future Earth Observation (EO) satellite missions.

The consultation aims to gain a better understanding of current and emerging market capabilities, as well as to identify potential approaches—both continuous and capability-enhancing—for future Earth observation satellite missions driven by the Government of Catalonia.

The consultation is aimed at companies, research centres, and other entities with the capability or interest in the development, integration, qualification, and/or exploitation of EO satellite missions or their subsystems.

The information gathered will help guide the definition of a potential future procurement process. However, this consultation does not imply any prior commitment nor does it determine the specific characteristics of any such process. Under no circumstances will participation in this consultation create rights or advantages in any subsequent procurement procedures.
