The IEEC and AeroS strengthen collaboration to boost Catalonia’s space ecosystem

Nov 5, 2026

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and the AeroS organisation have formalised a framework collaboration agreement to promote joint projects and initiatives in the fields of research, technological development, innovation, knowledge transfer, and talent development. The agreement also incorporates the IEEC as an institutional partner of AeroS.

With this agreement, both entities reinforce their shared commitment to consolidating Catalonia’s space ecosystem and facilitating stronger connections between research, technology, industry, talent, and public administrations, promoting initiatives with scientific, technological, economic, and social impact.

AeroS brings together Catalonia’s aeronautical and space ecosystem and works to generate opportunities for SMEs and industries linked to these sectors, as well as enabling companies from other industrial sectors to join these new value chains. For its part, the IEEC promotes and carries out space research and technological development in Catalonia, acting as an agent for knowledge, innovation, and technology transfer, and is a key player in driving the Catalan space sector.

The IEEC becomes an institutional partner of AeroS

One of the main elements of the agreement is the recognition of the IEEC as an institutional partner of AeroS, in view of its contribution of knowledge, expertise, and scientific and technological capability.

Within this framework, the Institute will actively contribute to AeroS activities linked to the space sector and will continuously participate in the AeroS Space Commission, thereby strengthening the presence of the scientific and research domain in defining and developing the ecosystem’s initiatives.

R&D&I projects, technology transfer, and new opportunities

The agreement establishes a wide range of areas in which AeroS and the IEEC will be able to carry out joint actions. Prominent among these is the definition of strategic initiatives to strengthen Catalonia’s space value chain and its national, European, and international profile.

The agreement also provides for the identification and development of research, development, innovation, and technology demonstration projects—including dual-use technologies where relevant—as well as the transfer of knowledge and technology between research centres, universities, companies, public administrations, investors, and other ecosystem stakeholders.

Furthermore, both entities will be able to promote joint participation in Catalan, Spanish, European, and international programmes, missions, and networks.

Through this agreement, the IEEC continues to expand its collaborative network with strategic stakeholders in the Catalan ecosystem, contributing its scientific and technological knowledge and working with AeroS to create new opportunities for companies, research centres, and public administrations to jointly drive projects in sectors with high growth and innovation potential.
