The IEEC joins Eurisy, the association that bridge space and society
The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) has been recently admitted to the member community of the non-profit association Eurisy. Eurisy gathers European space agencies, governmental offices and international organisations in charge of space affairs.

The official presentation of the IEEC as a new member of the association took place on 6 June 2022, at the meeting of the General Assembly held at the Suleyman Demirel Cultural Center of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU). The event was chaired by the President of Eurisy, Dominique Tilmans, and featured the Director of the Area for the Promotion of the Space Sector of the IEEC, Josep Colomé, and the Head of the IEEC Knowledge Transfer Office, Alberto Garcia-Rigo.

The association favours dialogue and supports collaboration between public institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), industry, and academia across the space value chain. In doing so, Eurisy aims to advance the dissemination of space-derived innovation across society by leveraging its wide network of end-users.

Eurisy supports emerging satellite solutions which can help professional communities in many sectors of application: transport, risk management, habitat protection, energy, climate change, and Internet of Things, among many others. The objective is to raise awareness of satellite applications and to provide bottom-up feedback to decision-makers on the challenges faced in the uptake of space-enabled products and services.

This Paris-based association was created in 1989 under French law, at the initiative of Hubert Curien, former Council Chair of the European Space Agency (ESA) and French Minister of Education. Eurisy is mandated by its members to act as a facilitator to fully exploit the synergies to bridge space and society. For over three decades, Eurisy has worked to put civil society at the core of the space value chain.
