Oct 19, 2023

The business incubation centre ESA BIC Barcelona of the European Space Agency (ESA), located in the RDIT building of the Baix Llobregat Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), in Castelldefels, has selected six technology companies from the space sector to be part of the incubation programme.

The selected companies, which will receive €50,000 for the development of their product or service, will have a maximum of two years of incubation from now on. These companies are: Circe Smart Navigation Solutions, EMC Barcelona, Geoskop, Kreios Space, SLIMOp Space and Xiroi.

The ESA BIC Barcelona business incubation programme aims to encourage the growth of innovative start-ups that create products and services using technologies or data from space, or that develop solutions for the space sector, and contribute to the promotion of the aerospace sector in Catalonia.

The programme, which will incubate up to 18 companies in three years, is promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, within the framework of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, as well as by the UPC and the Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia (PMT). The NewSpace Strategy, promoted by the Department of Business and Work, has the collaboration of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya), the i2CAT Foundation and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC).

The ESA BIC programme also has the support of the Agència Desenvolupament Econòmic Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona and Ajuntament de Barcelona (through Barcelona Activa).
