The field of quantum computation has experienced a number of brutal boosts in recent years and will become a key technology in the short future. Indeed, quantum computation brings the promise to outperform classical computers on some selected but extremely relevant tasks. We review recent progress in this quantum race.

J. I. Latorre is a full professor in theoretical physics at the University of Barcelona and long-term visiting professor at the Singapore National University. He is the director of the Centro de Ciencias de Benasque Pedro Pascual, head of the Quantic group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Scientific director of Entanglement Partners and CEO of Qilimanjaro.io . His expertise covers the fields of Particle Physics, Quantum Information and Artificial Intelligence. He produces wine.
