One of the winners of a special baccalaureate award chose the IEEC for doing her internship
Each year, the Education Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya give the Baccalaureate Special Award, a recognition that award the most outstanding baccalaureate students in recognition of their merits and high preparation. One of the possibilities of this award is to stay at a research centre, and the IEEC has been chosen by Irene Cabrero, a student interested in the field of aerospace engineering.

Irene has experienced firsthand the research done in the centre under the direction of Pep Colomé. This is what she explains about her experience:

What has the experience provide you academically? And on a personal level?

The experience has allowed me to delve into the world of research, because this kind of programmes give the possibility to see up close and first hand research and see how all the knowledge acquired during the academic career, at first as abstract view, may have a useful application which allows you to discover and explore many fields.

Did you imagine research as you have experienced it here?

Not really. It is really out of the image projected from the media, scientists performing countless experiments in their amazing labs. This does not mean that it has caused me a negative impression, but quite the opposite. The internship has let me know that you do not need to have big equipments to discover amazing things.

Has this internship stimulated curiosity about research?

I already had curiosity about research, but the experience has allowed me to get a better idea of it, far from romanticism and considering it more seriously in a professional future.
